Definition of Education

From the 1828 Noah Webster Dictionary we get the following clear definition of Education:
"EDUCA'TION, noun [Latin educatio.] The bringing up, as of a child; instruction; formation of manners. Education comprehends all that series of instruction and discipline which is intended to enlighten the understanding, correct the temper, and form the manners and habits of youth, and fit them for usefulness in their future stations. To give children a good education in manners, arts and science, is important; to give them a religious education is indispensable; and an immense responsibility rests on parents and guardians who neglect these duties.” (Noah Webster, Webster's 1828 Dictionary, 1828.)   See also some FAVORITE QUOTES on Education.

Treasure Learning

"...Do not be discouraged because you cannot learn all at once; learn one thing at a time, learn it well, and treasure it up, then learn another truth and treasure that up, and in a few years you will have a great store of useful knowledge which will not only be a great blessing to yourselves and your children, but to your fellow men."  Discourses of Wilford Woodruff, p. 269

True Aim of Education

I heard a statement years ago that has stuck with me.  It went something like this...."The true aim of education is education of the heart".  As I've pondered that over the years it's been reiterated to me that what we're doing in the home is for the purpose of building, strengthening and helping our children to become the best that they can become.  True education is who we turn out to be not....what we turn-out (as far as paperwork or handouts or 'busy work' etc.)
